The Box is Hott!!! Is Boxed Wine Making a ComeBack?

Published on 18 July 2023 at 12:39

When you think about box wine the first thing that typically comes to mind is, NO THANKS! I mean it is like the trailer trash of wines. It is thought to be the bottom of the barrel option, especially when you talk to these so-called wine snobs. I mean really if you think about it there is nothing really sexy about a box of wine. In my mind and I am sure in your mind as well, we all believe that bottled wine is just better. I mean we are just used to seeing bottles everywhere and the best of the best wine can only be found in bottles.

Contrary to the aforementioned, most wine consumers typically buy wine to be consumed sooner rather than later. Meaning most wine drinkers do not purchase wine to age. They purchase to drink immediately with a meal, for a party or amongst friends.

Inasmuch, boxed wine may actually be better or just as good as your average bottle of wine.

Here are 3 reasons to consider boxed wine

Reason 1:

Well first it really does solve the big age old problem of wine being spoiled way too soon. When you initially open a bottle of wine the air helps make that wine taste so much better. You swirl to oxidize the wine and to allow it to breathe. But as soon as the air hits the wine it begins the process of attacking the wine and degrading it, which makes you want to consume the entire bottle before it goes bad. Guess what, boxed wine solves this problem, boxes may not be sexy but they are designed to keep the air out which allows the wine to stay fresh for weeks!

Reason 2:

Compared to bottled counterparts, boxed wines come in a more environmentally friendly packaging, you can actually recycle 100% of the packaging. They last longer, once opened a box of wine can last anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks vs bottled wine which lasts 3 to 5 days.

Reason 3:

The best part is they pack more wine into each container, in some cases a box of wine is equivalent to 4 bottles of wine.

Now obviously the biggest concern about box wine is that it doesn't taste as good as wine from a bottle. Just know these wines in some cases will not be your $50 to $100 bottle of wine quality. But a lot of our favorite wine makers are taking there so called "good wine" to use in the creation of new boxed wine. So time to think about buying smart, helping the environment and saving money for yourself. One thing for sure is it won't have that cheap, vinegar-y taste you remember from college or you remember from sneaking a sip of boxed wine from your aunts refrigerator. Besides there are just so many options now. So go out grab a box of wine Grab A Glass & Enjoy!
